What about playing new variants using the forums

I believe we can play new variants by posting in a thread. Each player posts the move as well as the chessboard after the move. Then we can play some variants that are currently not supported, such as Bughouse, Machine Gun, Cat Chess, etc.

Is this a good idea, may I ask?
I think it is at allowed to do it, why shouldnt it.
So let's start a cat chess thread and have a standard cat chess game..

Cats are on h4,h5.
Sides:There are three sides in the game, white, black and feline.
The white and black sides consist of a normal army while the feline side consists of two cats.

New piece: A cat can not be captured, can move at most two steps in any direction at a time, can capture or push any piece(s) within its range. Cats originally are on h4 and h5. If a cat decides to push any piece then the cat must move in the same direction as the pushed piece. Any piece that is pushed off the board is removed.

The goal of the cats is to disrupt the game as much as possible. If either white or black wins then the felines lost. On the other hand, if white and black reaches a draw for any reason, (such as one side can move nothing partly because the cats have blocked the way) the feline side win.

The idea of cat chess comes from the thought of a cat jumps on a board and disrupt a chess game between two humans.
Hmm, do you mean http://de.lichess.org/forum/off-topic-discussion/cats#10?

But for what are the cat pieces needed then?

How about:
* three players, white starts, then black, then cat player, then white again etc.
* Cat player has one cat, it is not placed on the board in start position.
* Cat can go everywhere, eg cat a8-g1 or cat d4-d3 are legal moves.
* But there must be a 'hole' to reach target square. hole is defined as: reachable by any standard piece placed anywhere. eg if in start position ra1 would be placed on b3 then cat could not go to a1. But if rook would be placed on a3, then cat could (because a nb3 could go to a1).
* cat can also go off the board and back.
* cat can be taken like a normal piece.
* cat can block but not take pieces.
* When it is cat players move he can but does not have to make a move.
* if cat has a piece on one of the 8 squares around it it can also move that piece (must be a legal move for that piece). Counts as a cat move.
* Cat player wins when the Game is draw. He loses if the cat gets lost or if white or black wins.
