What opening is this????

I hate this opening with a PASSION. It is by far my most hated opening, I really, really hate it.

It is this horrible thing: 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5 3. Nc3!!!

I am aware of 3. dxe5 and also 3. e3 and I know how to respond to those.

But this Nc3 stuff is like a Queens gambit declined, except for the unfortunate fact that my pawn is on e5 instead of e6.

I tried to look this opening up, and I couldn't find it. Please somebody, this terrible thing has to have a name, and I really need some advice on how to proceed if white plays this.

I may have to analyze and name it myself! It is not an Albin counter gambit, nor is it a QGD or QGA....but whatever it is, I hate it.
I'm also aware of 3. cxd5

3. cxd5, dxe5, or e3 are all known and established and all give black a decent chance.

3. Nc3 looks to me like the ultimate refutation of a counter gambit attempt by black (2...e5) and unfortunately, the only time I ever play a queens gambit game I am playing as black with the e5 counter-gambit.

I guess the only name for it is an Albin counter gambit...but it's unlike the 3 main replies to the ACG, and I think it refutes the entire gambit.

I'm surprised that I can't find any theory at all or even any mention of 3. Nc3....since people do play it almost as frequently as the other 3 moves.

Maybe there is some reason it's not played by white, maybe it's inaccurate, but I can't see why. All I've had is trouble trying to play against it.
1 d4 d5 2 c4 e5 3 nc3 dxc4
should be good for black (only 44% score for white).
That is what I almost always do.

But I don't know how to proceed. I'm used to the same structure, but with white taking and me pushing the d pawn.

When white gets to push the d pawn, his bishop will snatch up my c pawn, and now he has total control of his pushed d pawn, with the queen, bishop, and knight protecting it.

3..dxc4 actually transposes to the QGA which is of course a well-respected opening by its own right, but just feel like that should be pointed out. If 4 d5 is what you are afraid of, a6 intending b5 might be worth looking at I guess...

In this move order I feel that 3..exd4 should be fine as well, like Nxd5 c6 or Qxd4 Nc6 Qxd5 Bd6 and kicking the queen around should give you the kind of game you are looking for.
Much appreciated, Lightsss.

I had never thought of those options!
