Welcome! My name is Devina and I am a 22yr old Woman's FIDE Master, chess coach & streamer from the States.
I started playing chess around age 8 and I quickly grew into a seasoned tournament player, training and playing every week. I love helping others through teaching, and one of my greatest joys is seeing people learn, enjoy, and improve at the game to reach their goals.

I am an active chess streamer on Twitch (www.twitch.tv/SimplyDevina) where I have been streaming for three years and earned Twitch Partner in April 2022. My goal from the beginning was to build up a community and use my platform for the better and I’m working towards my goals of remaining authentic, a friend for others and making a positive impact in the chess community. I have been playing tournaments for many years. Some highlights of my career are:
North American Youth Chess Championships U14 Girls Champion
Texas Grade & Collegiate: Tied for 1st 9th-10th grade
Texas Women's Championships: 1st Place
US Junior Open: Tied for 3rd U21
Representative for World Youth Chess Championships: 2010 & 2011

- I have been teaching private lessons for 4 years and have experience teaching all ages, especially adults, and all beginner-intermediate levels.
- I have been running group lessons (2 people/class) for the past 2 years and have experience matching up players with a partner of appropriate levels and focusing on a specific theme each month to target specific weaknesses in a small group setting.

I like to do engaging analysis with my student's games, work on positional play, developing a good tactical eye and more!

When it comes to teaching, I like to adapt to each student's needs while still improving each part of their game. Depending on what gaps each student needs help to improve most in, I do a good job at focusing more time in those areas. I explain my points clearly, break down topics that can be hard to grasp and also have a patient and understanding approach to my teaching style.

The first lesson I use as a diagnostic. I analyze your games, give certain positions related to calculation/middlegames/endgames to understand how you think and your strengths as weaknesses overall as a player. This helps me prepare to target your weaknesses for future lessons. I always prioritize questions you would like to cover during lessons but if you do not have a preference, I will always come to the lessons prepared with material.
