En Croissant: The Ultimate Chess Toolkit

This is pretty good!
Although you should sign the file name of the installer, because windows and other anti-viruses think this is malware. I tested it and it doesn't look suspicious.
@FrankWillow

one more thing, the settings i set for review for any engine doesnt get saved. i have to set it every time
I used it for a couple days in order to be able to give some potentially useful feedback:

• It is a bit prone to errors, for example when trying to open a file while multiple tabs are already open (it ends up loading after a couple tries in the end, so no big deal).
• Importing files is either not intuitive or the "Search for files" field does not work on my machine.
• Interactive studies are not interactive using En Croissant. It's not very important for me, but someone else might find this use case a deal breaker.
• Repertoire practice works well enough, but there are better alternatives for this use case. Using chessbook for a comparison, En Croissant allows for a more comprehensive repertoire since it has no movement limit, but chessbook's anki-like method of learning is better. Chessbook's "Expected in 1 of N games" and "Go to your biggest gap" features and "Cover 1 in N games" setting are also points in favor of chessbook.
• I can't figure out how to install a different puzzle database than "Lichess puzzles" or how a "Puzzle" type file is different from an "Other" type file.
• I can't set default options for the database in the analysis board. Using the "Lichess All" database I get stats corresponding to bullet to correspondence time controls with a rating ranging from 1000 to 2500. I can select the time control and rating stats I prefer in the options, but it's a bit annoying having to do that for every analysis board I open.
• Since I'm talking about the database it would be a cool feature being able to sort the moves by result instead of by number of games, and also to have an "accumulated total" percentage column so the user can check for coverage himself. Percentage columns could also benefit from including decimal points like you have in the results column, which is an advantage over the lichess analysis board.

It's overall a great application. It's not quite there for puzzles or repertoire practice yet, but I can see myself using En Croissant regularly for games against the computer, game analysis and studies. Fantastic work.

I see the Save diskette icon on the bottom of the screen. When pressed I can save on hard drive.
It asked to over write a pgn and I would have prefer to include more than one game in the same pgn file.
How do we do that?
I was analyzing a OTB game i played in a rated tournament today, and on the 22nd move, the engine is not showing evaluation, it says
"illegal uci"
pls tell what it means.
do i need to send the pgn?
From this move, every move says illegal uci.
Stockfish 16 and Komodo are saying the same thing too. I tried both engines.
This looks great already! Thanks for making it available to people. One minor issue: Komodo doesn't seem to download when I try it on a Mac (sorry if this has already been mentioned).
Thanks for this, I've used SCID and SCIDvsPC on Linux on and off and while they have lots of great features I've found both a bit clunky, particularly when adding games from Lichess. Am I right in thinking that En Croissant has the ability to download games directly from Lichess?
As a programmer, I have some idea of what has gone into this project. Thanks for all the work and for a clean and simple UI. For a player at my level it pretty much does all I need. In your blog post you mention database search options but I don't see them obvious in the interface. Are these documented somewhere?

No rush to answer me. I realize that your post has provoked a ton of support work for you :) I would second the suggestion of others for videos or other resources to help people find their way around the application without needing to submit false bug reports. I will soon have some time available and might be willing to help develop some of this material if you are interested.

Thanks again,

David
