Anyone know why rating points are weird on here? You can play a game with somebody, you lost and that person has gained 200 points even though you're similar rating. Why do players gain and lose points so weirdly?
They use a Glicko system here, and this system takes into account how well-established a player's rating is.

How about this situation for weird: I am winning early in the game when my opponent apparently loses connection. After a while, I am offered the option to claim victory. I wait instead out of courtesy, and with less than a minute on his clock, he returns, moves and offers a draw. I accept to be nice since he is now at a serious time disadvantage and I need to move on.
Draw: I lose 3, no big deal, but he (rating 1532) gets 8 points??? Seems like the algo should consider the implications of the time remaining and positional strength and not reward the losing player who received a draw as a courtesy.
