What I think about chess

@ RainOfMeteors
We talk about chess, not about you. Just get over it. And by the way, I am curious, is it fun to play only against Stockfish? Why you never play against people here on lichess?
I think it's a LOT more fun to play against people vs machines.

As a thinker by nature, the game suits me well. The game is a clashing of two minds, the aim is to outwit your opponent, or at least see deeper, farther, or more clearly than them.

I do understand how it can be called "boring", an accusation usually made by non-players. I even see how it is boring among players. On the other hand, it's the most interesting 2 player battle that I've ever encountered.

To witness the confluence of forces, to take part in the collision of wills materialized, is immensely enjoyable.

He was talking about me when he said he was being "lambasting by trolls." It seems like he's the one who can't get over it if he has to mention it even while starting another thread.
I find it interesting that there are many people who think computers are going to kill chess, or have already done so.

What would be wrong with switching to chess 960 if that ever happens? Maybe old Fischer really did have a pont back there, even if he was losing his mind.
I don't think it was computers that "killed" chess. I think this accusation refers to the vast knowledge of theory that people have today compared to the old, "Romantic" period of chess history. Fischer himself said "chess has died" before powerful engines existed.

The point still stands: If one wishes to avoid the prison of opening knowledge, they always have the freedom of 960.
I don't think chess is dead at all really. Sure, technically speaking if you just memorize every possible computer move you can win every time, but the is literally impossible and there are plenty of tricks that might look bad for a play but are actually good or at least not damaging that keeps players on there toes. There was a lot of talk about Carlsen's Bxg4 move a few days ago and while he lost he actually got an interesting game out of it.

People need to start thinking outside of the computer mindset and instead focus on moves with the highest probability that their opponent might make a mistake.

Often computers will chose to lose tension in a position to gain a pawn, but that tension might cause your opponent to miss something even more damaging. It isn't so black and white as people are making it.

I play chess because the people who play chess are interesting and the game is extremely addictive. I'm not sure chess would be fun without the community. Still not sure chess is fun at all, in a vacuum.
I agree that chess is not dead, OC.

This allegation owes it's origin to the true masters, the GM's, of the chess world.

To any ordinary player, the vast opening theory in chess is a map that has barely been explored.
@Einsamkeit

I'd imagine they're using it to play puzzles and positions picked up from newspapers and books, considering they're all played from positions, but I could be wrong. I've heard of some players who use lichess Stockfish level 8 to maraud as stronger players on other sites.
Chess will never die or lose it´s attraction when two players meet over the board without any technical help. In this situation chess will always remain a "competion of brains". However, computers can be helpful as a training device.
